Beyond Top Trumps

A report on the C&VG website suggests that developers of the upcoming Doctor Who Top Trumps video game at Eidos have plans for the licence beyond the card trading game

It would of course be wonderful to have a next gen Doctor Who themed game – but whoever is in charge at BBC licencing, have a good think about it.

Doctor Who, with the anti-gun message from the main character and the use of the sonic screwdriver and other gadgets is tailor made for the Nintendo Wii.

Tom Heaton and Pete Hickman are the developers behind the project, and their view is:

“We are HUGE Doctor Who fans, so that would be something that we’d really like to see too. All I’m allowed to say is… watch this space.”

Computer & Video Games has it’s own opinion, however:

…is Eidos really in the position to put out a game whose core audience exists only in a small island off the coast of continental Europe? Especially when you’ve got to put puzzle and decision-based gameplay over guns and killing?

Failing a first person puzzler, some sort of MMORPG should be considered, allowing players to attain the rank of Time Lord or playing as other races and civilizations from Doctor Who…

(Sensitive Doctor Who fans should avoid the strong comments on the C&VG website…)
