We’ve already had one set of rumours concerning actor Robert Carlyle and the role of the 11th Doctor, and thanks to a mention in the Radio Times they’re set to resurface…
Digital Spy have reported that Carlyle has denied any knowledge of being in contact with the BBC regarding Doctor Who.
The actor – as comfortable in movies (The World is Not Enough, Trainspotting, The Full Monty, Eragon) as he is on television (Hamish Macbeth) hasn’t ruled anything out, however…
“Nobody has been in touch with me about Doctor Who, so I really don’t know where that came from,” the Full Monty star told the Radio Times.
However, Carlyle did admit that he could be lured into the Tardis in the future: “It’s David’s [Tennant] part and nothing to do with me, so I can’t really think about it at the moment. But… would I do it? Possibly.”
Digital Spy also note that “Tennant is widely expected to leave the acclaimed family show before the fifth season.”
Depending on when Series 5 is scheduled to be recorded and aired will determine when casting announcements – likely to be made by an entirely new production team – will be made.
