Astro Rubbish

Doctor Who star David Tennant has revealed his disdain for all things Russell Grant in the Radio 4 series Chain Reaction, in which he is interviewed by co-star Catherine Tate.

The actor – son of a Presbyterian minister – branded astrology “absolute nonsense”.

An alleged science, the “study” – shall we call it – of who celestial bodies affect our lives and the resulting statements based upon them in the form of daily and weekly guidance in newspaper columns have attracted attention for thousands of years, with major empires such as the Chinese and Egyptians relying on their astrologers.

However I suspect Tennant is talking in the main here about daily horoscope columns:

“There are get-out clauses everywhere you go. If nothing comes of the predictions, you conveniently forget about it.

“And the one day of the year you do meet a tall dark stranger you say, ‘You see, Mystic Meg was right’. It’s absolute nonsense.

“Were I to do Room 101, astrology would be top of the list.”

I’d like to see that episode; sadly Room 101 has finished.
