American Doctor Who strip from IDW is still set for a January release, reports Firefox News, the first comic based on the series to be produced specifically for an American market.
Covers are by Nick Roche, with scripts by Series 3 script editor and former Doctor Who Magazine editor and Big Finish producer Gary Russell.
Each comic will have a stand-alone story with elements that add up to a series-long arc, just as in the aired show.
The Tenth Doctor is traveling with “the rather fabulous Martha Jones, a young trainee doctor from contemporary London” (a description which sets the comic at some point in the previously aired series rather than after Martha’s rumored return in Series 4).
Plot-wise, IDW says they will “face down threats to stop darkness and evil from spreading throughout the cosmos – and, while they’re at it, they also hunt for the galaxy’s best chocolate milkshakes. Unknown to them, however, forces have set their sights on the good Doctor: As the last of the Time Lords, he is, after all, highly collectible to the right people.”
If you recall this news from when the project was first announced, there have been a few developments, including colour images from the strip as well as a brief preview of Issue #1:
“In fact, of all Issue #1 serves as a primer, featuring a ‘Greatest Hits’ of the Doctor; Whimsy, Sonic Screwdriver, Cute Assistant, Hint of Underlying Darkness…all present and correct,” Roche said. “And it’d be great if the comic opened up the show for new viewers. It really is a treat.”
Ordering information and pricing has yet to be confirmed.
