To Boldly Who…

Best known as Enterprise Captain Jean Luc Picard from Star Trek: The Next Generation, veteran actor Patrick Stewart has confirmed his much rumoured desire to appear in Doctor Who

Stewart will of course be appearing with David Tennant in the RSC production of Hamlet next summer, and he is reportedly positive about things turning out well and his co star “getting him the gig”, so to speak, as reported on ContactMusic.com

“I would love to be in Doctor Who. I am doing some RSC work with David Tennant next year so who knows? If we gel on stage we could on screen.”.

Indeed you could. Of course, with Sir Ben Kingsley’s people apparently unaware of his rumoured appearance in Series 4 as Davros, who better to make an impact in the role than another British bald acTOR, Patrick Stewart?

There may be some that believe Stewart’s talent consists of two characters – nice Picard and grumpy Picard (as seen best in the movie Star Trek: First Contact as well as in Moby Dick), but I’m pretty certain he could do “insane scientist”…

It would be pretty cool, and genre-wall-breaking to see an actor of Patrick Stewart’s standing in Doctor Who, however, if only to balance out some of the more “soapy” casting.
