Freema’s Future

Doctor Who and Freema Agyeman fans beware – although the actress is due to return to Doctor Who in Series 4, things will be very different it seems…

The frankly unmissable FreemaAgyeman.com has revealed that Freema will be appearing in half of Series 4, as well as turning up in Torchwood!

As the actress’ fansite puts it:

The good news:

1. Freema Agyeman will be in Doctor Who series four as Martha Jones

2. Freema will guest star on Torchwood as Martha Jones for 3 episodes

3. Torchwood series two airs January 2008 so we get to see Freema back on the telly far before the long wait for Doctor Who series 4 to air in the spring

The bad news:

1. Freema Agyeman apparently will NOT be in the Christmas Special

2. Freema doesn’t return until the middle of Doctor Who series four (ep 6? 7?)

3. There is a new companion TBA for all 13 episodes of Doctor Who series four

This of course is unprecedented (Tegan didn’t leave for this many stories back in 1983) in Doctor Who and opens things up in a very interesting way. Seeing Martha Jones in Torchwood meanwhile will be very interesting, as will the introduction of a new companion…

According to a BBC Press Release:

The new announcement leaves a vacant space in the Tardis and a new companion for The Doctor, who will join the new series for the entire 13 week run will be announced shortly.

This is something we’ll be watching out for over the next few weeks, and

Might even be enough to drag me from my two weeks off that starts at the weekend…

So what’s the official word from the Executive Producer?

Doctor Who’s executive producer and head writer, Russell T Davies comments: ‘Series three has gained outstanding reviews and Freema has been a huge part of that success, gaining rave notices for her portrayal of Martha. Now we are taking the character of Martha into brand new territory with a starring role in Torchwood’.

Freema Agyeman said ‘I can’t wait to start filming on Torchwood and the new series of Doctor Who. It’s a huge new challenge for me and I’m delighted Russell has decided to expand the character of Martha Jones.’

Roll on Torchwood Series 2 and Doctor Who Series 4!
