No rest for the wicked, eh, especially on the last day of Doctor Who Series 3! There’s so much going on, I almost forgot about news about Freema Agyeman not being in the Christmas Special and back for Series 4 (occasionally).
But the big news is news paper the Mirror declaring that David Tennant will hang up his sonic screwdriver when Russell T Davies steps down – both apparently at the end of production on Series 4.
The end of the next series will also see us bidding a fond farewell to writer Russell T Davies, who is hanging up his cyber pen to work on other projects. And David Tennant has admitted to having decided when he’s off (er, it’s then, too).
These departures don’t mean Doctor Who will be exterminated – the Beeb’s drama supremo Jane Tranter has big things planned for the hit sci-fi series.
She insists: “One thing is certain, Doctor Who will be around on BBC1 for years to come.”
There has never been any confirmation that Davies will quit any time soon (plenty of contradiction, no confirmation) and David Tennant hasn’t stated at any point when he will be leaving, so while we take this news with a pinch of salt, the following information about Freema Agyeman’s ongoing role in Doctor Who is also of interest:
By the start of the fourth series next year, she’s had enough.
A show insider reveals: “Martha will still be in Doctor Who, but her relationship with the doctor will have changed.
“The truth is that she loves him but he doesn’t feel the same way.
“She is going to have to share him because he’ll be getting a different sidekick. And this is a major addition to the cast.”
Bosses are remaining tightlipped over whether the new companion is male or female.
Interesting stuff, as is the rumour that Freema will be turning up in Series 2 of Torchwood. The same article also states that Freema won’t be in the Christmas Special, which will instead see David Tennant joined by Kylie Minogue.
Elsewhere in the Mirror, John Barrowman has been talking frankly about big women, parenthood and being a sex symbol to adults and a hero to children. Oh and he also manages to tease us about Last of the Time Lords..
One thing’s for sure, Doctor Who fans are set for an explosive series finale tonight. “It’s going to leave every single Who fan absolutely speechless,” says John, who’s barely able to contain his excitement.
“There’s going to be a huge revelation, not just for the Doctor, but also for Captain Jack. It’s just going to be, like, OH MY GOD!
“I wish I could have a satellite over the UK at that moment, when that sequence is revealed, to just hear whoosh… silence.”
It’s been like that for the last 13 weeks, hasn’t it…?
