Press Launch News!

The Doctor Who Series 3 press launch tookplace on Wednesday evening, and featured guests, clips and the odd spoiler so do tread carefully…

Ian Wylie of the Manchester Evening News was at the event at the Mayfair Hotel in London, spotting David Tennant, Freema Agyeman and David’s real-life partner Sophia Myles, as well as Executive Producer Russell T Davies, TV presenter Jonathan Ross, comedienne Dawn French, Catherine Tate, Annette badland (Margaret Slitheen), Tracy Ann Oberman (Army of Ghosts/Doomsday), Series 3 guest star Michelle Collins… as well as episodes one and two of the new run…

We could go down the spoiler route right now, and publish below in blank text so that you have to left-click and drag your mouse over the blank area to read just why the Doctor is kissing Martha after they have just met. Howeverthat would be too tempting to me, and so too I assume to yoruselves. If you want to know what Martha thinks would be the result of her telling people that she met Shakespeare, click that Manchester Evening News link above – else read on…

On the subject of kisses – why do we get so into this topic? – The Daily Record have focussed on this aspect of the first episode with a short piece titled “Who’s He Snogging Now?”, declaring that the Doctor is making up for lost time and throwing some dodgy arithmetic into the mix. Most notable about this article however is that they namecheck David Tennant and forget to mention that he is Scottish!. Looks like someone is collecting their cards today…

Also at the event was funnyman Matt Lucas of Little Britain fame who it seems is interested in being the Doctor… The Irish Examiner spoke to Lucas’ partner Kevin McGee who revealed:

“I think he would like to be the Doctor and yes, I can see him playing that role,” he said. “He (Matt) would love to be in Doctor Who and I would love him to as well.”

I’m sure he could play an Absorbaloff or Slitheen, but the Doctor?!

Metro managed to speak to the Doctor himself, meanwhile, and do you know what? They asked him if he would be returning for Series 4!

“Do you know how many times I have been asked that question? Do you know how many times I have answered it?” then he smiled.

He also had some words on his new co-star, Freema Agyeman and her character.

“The big story is Freema Agyeman is Martha Jones which is the big event of series three.

“Finishing one relationship is always difficult, but then you plunge right into another one, that’s what I find works best.”

There will be more news from this event later on…
