Key to the TARDIS

There has of course been tonnes of coverage of Billie’s impending departure from Doctor Who, and while these refer to her other upcoming roles, there’s also the inevitable mention of new companions… and if you haven’t voted for your choice in the Kasterborous Forum, go and vote now – Kroton the Cybermen from the DWM comic strip is currently winning, curiously…

Top pick appears to be Freema Agyeman – ex of “Crossroads” – who appears in the final adventure of the series (Episodes 12 & 13) as Adeola. The Guardian’s Organ Grinder blog refers to tabloid favourite Nikki Sanderson – ex of “Coronation Street” – and even suggesting a return for Bonnie Langford (who played Mel Bush, companion of the Sixth and Seventh Doctors) before suggesting this bombshell:

Or are the pundits wrong in assuming that it will have to be a woman? If the current trend for generating sexual tension between the Doctor and Piper is anything to go by, she probably will. But the tactic – which has seen Piper and new Doctor David Tennant kiss (although she was possessed by someone else at the time) – has upset some traditionalists. So what about a man? Or even a gay man who falls in love with the Doctor?

Food for thought… meanwhile the blog lets you make your own selection.

If you’re unfamiliar with Freema Agyeman, The Sun provides a revealing portrait of the lady as well as telling us that she studied at Radford University in Virginia in America.

It’s also The Sun who re-ignites talk of Michelle Ryan – ex of “EastEnders” (there’s a pattern developing here…) – while The Times claim that Billie Piper has been dubbed “Britain’s Marilyn Monroe”. No, I’ve never heard of Diana Dors either…

Sky News meanwhile have a myriad of suggestions. now I’ve got a keen eye for tottie, but I have to confess to being unfamiliar with some of the girls in the gallery. Roxanne Pallett, Adele Silva (both of “Emmerdale” – the pattern is wearing thin…), lovely singer Rachel Stevens (pictured above), Natalie Cassidy of “EastEnders” (I hear the sound of barrels being scraped – or manicured?), Ali Bastian of “Hollyoaks” (the Doctor is probably a bit too mature for her), totally top pick Samantha Morton (someone at Sky News knows what they’er talking about), “Brookside” and “Phantom of the Opera” star Jennifer Ellison, chav gob Jade Goody (cries into pint), Natalie Press of “Bleak House”, Wayne Rooney’s fiance Coleen McLoughlin (I think even rudimenatry time-travel knowledge will be beyond her…), Nadine Coyle of pop group Girls Aloud and finally Charlotte Church are all sugegsted. Frankly I only really like the last one – I’m just nipping into the forum…

…I’m back. Eve Myles (Torchwood) is of course another hot pick, mentioned at ITN.

But of course, only time will tell. After all, the SFX poll has Peter Kay as the clear favourite!
