Merchandise and Events News

Lots of bits and bobs have popped their heads up from across the spectrum of Doctor Who news topics…

Both the Times Online and The Peninsula Online feature an article by Caitlin Moran about the wonders of modern scientific discoveries.

In “Why pregnancy and motherhood make you brainy”, she applies feminine issues to the last series of Doctor Who, and the plight of the Daleks:

I’m sure there can’t be many mothers who didn’t watch the last series of Doctor Who without a few nods of recognition — specifically the episode in which the Doctor discovered the Emperor Dalek, who was controlling the minds of the six million smaller Daleks scattered across the universe. Additionally, of course, the Emperor Dalek is much wider at the bottom than the top, rather cranky, and has a limited ability to get up stairs — although it was unlikely, in his case, to have been caused by an extra two stones and a compromised pelvic floor.

I have no idea what she’s talking about, and Mrs Christian advises me that I “shouldn’t worry about it”. So that’s good news then!

Meanwhile, our friends at Galaxy4 have listed two eagerly awaited upcoming Doctor Who DVDs – Third Doctor adventure Inferno is due for release on May 8th 2006 while the legendary Tom Baker serial Genesis of the Daleks will be released on March 27th 2006. Galaxy4 have also updated their range of Doctor Who merchandise, which includes new series Cybermen, classic Cybermen and Daleks as well as a brand new duvet set!

The BBC’s Official Doctor Who website has announced that the mp3 featuring a DVD-style commentary track for The Christmas Invasion is the most downloaded mp3 from bbc.co.uk over Christmas, with 64,000 downloads, and has even been listed in iTunes’ podcast directory!

And if you’re feeling a little hungry, why not invest in “Doctor Who Party Planner”? eyeofhorus.org.uk have alerted us to this real books listing on amazon.co.uk, due for release on May 24th at £4.99. We suspect it contains recipes and decoration ideas for kids parties, and doesn’t signify a major change in career path for our favourite Time Lord….

Finally events news, and SFX have news of some of the upcoming Doctor Who related events, including DWAS event Doctor Who Unleashed which guests Nicola Bryant, Colin Baker, and Paul Darrow, and takes place on the weekend of the 21st and 23rd of July at the Holiday Inn, Ipswich.
