The covers for the three DVDs that make up the “The Beginning” boxset have been released.
The three covers for An Unearthly Child, The Daleks (seen in part above) and Edge of Destruction can be found in their full colour glory at Outpost Gallifrey – and thanks to OG for supplying the image above.
The eagerly-awaited boxset is due for release on 30th of January and features a whole raft of special features as extras. Each story has been remastered and the set also includes the alternative version of the pilot episode which remained unbroadcast for 35 years. Across the episodes commentaries are provided by William Russell and Carol Ann Ford, producer Verity Lambert as well as directors Waris Hussein and Christopher Barry.
Meanwhile, a new show is planned by CBBC dedicated to Doctor Who, reports the BBC’s Official site. The magazine program will be aimed at older children, and may go by the name of “Doctor Who Friday“… It’s due to be screened around the same time as the new series.
Again from the BBCs Official Doctor Who site, books news; The Stone Roseby Jacqueline Rayner, The Feast of the Drowned by Stephen Cole and The Resurrection Casket by Justin Richards are all scheduled for release in the US and Canada in April.
Doctor Who’s US landing is still the focus of much attention, this time filmfodder.com reports the news alongside and action shot of Christopher Eccleston as the Ninth Doctor.
According to Julian Henry in MediaGuardian, cost-cutting at the BBC is going to affect the PR department with 25% being slashed from the budget:
“That’s why a decision by the BBC to cut its programme publicity teams will be studied with interest by those of us involved in successful TV formats – such as Big Brother, Pop Idol, Doctor Who or The Tweenies – that also exist as brands and generous money-generating devices for their owners.”
SO don’t expect to see any huge billboard posters of David Tennant and Billie Piper…
Finally, yet another chance to meet the Doctor! icwales.co.uk report that a charity acution on behalf of ChildLine takes place Thursday 19th January, with the top item the chance to spend the day on the set of Doctor Who! Tickets for the event at the In Fusion Restaurant in Cardiff cost £18.
