Weekend News Update

www.scficollector.co.uk has the first finished product image of the new Remote Controlled Dalek! Heavily rumoured to be the best seller this Christmas, the 12″ toy is available from September. The site also carries official images of some of the other new toys, such as the Dalek Spaceship LCD game and various mugs.

Russell T Davies is appearing at the Sherman Theatre, Cardiff, on Tuesday, September 6, according to icwales.co.uk. Topics on discussion will no doubt include David Tennant, the Christmas special and his earlier works such as “Queer as Folk” and “Bob and Rose” – the event is a fundraising event as part of the Mardi Gras Fringe Festival. Along with Charlotte Church, Davies has agreed to become a patron of the Cardiff Wales Mardi Gras.

Saturday’s Mirror reported on John Barrowman’s new Saturday night appearances – as a star of the BBC’s new Saturday night show provisionally titled “Simply Musicals”. The four-part show, also reported on the BBC News pages, will also feature names such as Ruthie Henshall, former S Club singer Jon Lee and Mica Paris who will be singing numbers from shows including Billy Elliott, Guys and Dolls and Chicago. According to BBC News, the audience members will be asked to attend dressed for the West End in order to create a theatrical atmosphere.

Finally, BBC7 have moved on to the first part of Sword of Orion this weekend. The adventure, starring Paul McGann and India Fisher, is listed on the BBC7 page thus:

Doctor Who: Sword of Orion: The Doctor becomes involved in the Orion war, and an old enemy lurks in the shadows.

And it’s available on the BBC’s Listen Again service until next Saturday – recommended listening…
