Eccleston Award

Christopher Eccleston has been awarded the accolade of Best Actor!

Unfortunately this wasn’t the Oscars, but the highly (!) prestigious TV Choice/TV Quick awards held last night at the Dorchester Hotel on London’s Park Lane. Frankly the awards make the DWM awards look like the Oscars, but even so it is still a massive recognition for the show and Eccleston’s contribution.

Eccleston was up against Robson Greene and Martin Clunes – so no mean feat at least where Clunes is concerned. Doctor Who was also noimated for Best New Drama (new!!) but lost out to Desperate Housewives (!!!!!!) However it further underlines the importance of Saturday night to the BBC – entertainment show award went to Strictly Come Dancing.

This information is reported on the Official Doctor Who site, the BBC News pages and in The Sun.

The BBC Official site has reported that Australian Doctor Who fans will have the oppurtunity to buy the new range of toys through a distributor called Funtastic – the Remote Controlled Daleks should be available from October onwards.

Doctor Who scriptwriter Rob Shearman, according to the Official site, has a play currently broadcast on Radio 4 which stars Martin Freeman of “The Office” and “The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy”. “Towards the End of the Morning” is repeated at 9pm this Saturday, followed by part two at 3pm on Sunday.

icwales.co.uk reports that Toby Grosvenor, the BBC employee who played a major part as head of technology in the last series and has been the focus of fraud allegations, has been granted bail. The father of two was a member of the BBC Wales management board, but has since left the post.
