Well – we couldn’t keep this one back! Read it and believe it! Doctor Who has been commissioned for a third series, just 12 weeks after the second was given the go ahead!

The report from the CBBC Newsround site (explains the tone…) tells how a second Christmas special for 2006 has been commissioned as well. And it seems Billie Piper appears as Rose in every episode of series 2.

These announcements were made by Russell T Davies at this evening’s BAFTA screening of the final episode of the series, The Parting of the Ways, which will be broadcast this Saturday. Beware – details are in the Press…including The Guardian, who report Head of drama commissioning Jane Tranter as saying:

“Russell is a fantastic writer. Who else could have had the Doctor save the world from a council estate to Downing Street and bring him to the heart of the darkness of reality TV.”

So, not only have we a third series, it also means another 28 new episodes! There is no word on anymore companions for the next series as yet…

We’ll have more news on this as it comes.
