Doctor News

The BBC’s Press Office, 99% of the time an excellent source of information on the new series of Doctor Who has oddly omitted next week’s episode, Father’s Day from its Programme Information section. As we can only speculate upon the reasons for this, we’ll swiftly move on to soem news concerning two incarnations of the Doctor…

In reaction to the proposed takeover bid of Manchester United by Tampa Bay Buccaneers owner Malcolm Glazer, Christopher Eccleston has apparently pledged £10,000 towards the purchase of a 10% stake in order to block Glazer’s takeover. The Times artilce reporting this (by Tom Dart) is littered with Doctor Who treferences and is an amusing read; you can see it here. One bit to look out for is:

“…the best way of killing a Cyberman is by showering it with gold, which is hardly going to perturb Glazer.”

ITV meanwhile have announced that David Tennant will play an obsessive ex-boyfriend in “Secret Smile”, an upcoming drama adapted from Nicci French’s best selling novel. The next Doctor Who will be starring alongside Kate Ashfield (“Shaun of the Dead”) and Claire Goose. It enters production next week, to be broadcast in two 90 minute parts.

As yet there is no announced dates for the filming of the next series of Doctor Who in which Tennant will star.

Finally, if you haven’t done so already, take a look at the BBCs Official Doctor Who pages and see the vast amount of synergistic beauty the team there have put into it. It has a new look every week, there are small links to sites seen in the show (such as Clive’s which was seen in Rose and the UNIT website) and last week they launched the “Dalek Escape” game. Have a look, and well done to all concerned!
